Mothman
Mothman is a hugely important figure in West Virginian folklore, first reported to appear around Point Pleasant in the 1960s. Usually described as a tall, winged moth-like creature with glowing red eyes, he has become both an eerie omen and a beloved symbol of Appalachian mystery. As he tends to show up around tragic events, there is some debate on whether he is a bearer of disaster or a friendly being trying to convey warning.
This piece draws on Mothman as a friendly spirit accompanying a hiker, maybe protecting her from bad things to come!
